"Science with massive surveys" School - January 25 to January 27 midday, 2.5 days
Surveys that generate large quantities of data, whether images or catalogues are now ubiquitous, from Gaia, to Euclid and LSST, and soon SKA. This new generation of surveys lead to a fundamental change in the way astronomy is being conducted as both the handling of the data and their analysis require new tools for science to be performed efficiently. The massive quantity of observed data make it impossible to download them locally, requiring the use of remote science platform that are as close as possible to the data themselves, and/or ad hoc visualisation tools. At the same time, carefully trained machine learning tools become essential to analyze these massive amounts of data and truly optimize the use of these surveys. The 2.5-day school will cover these topics, providing hand-on experience with using common science platforms and archival / visualisation systems, as well as topical uses of machine learning to extract science from large surveys data volumes.
The school is open to everyone (students/postdocs and staff) who are new to (or have only basic knowledge of) science platforms and/or machine learning. The program will mix lectures and hands-on practice.
3rd ExGal-Twin project meeting - January 27 midday to January 29, 2.5 days
The goal of this final project meeting is to share and discuss projects, both completed and ongoing, carried out within the ExGal-Twin network. We will also review the progress of our project to date and plan future collaborations beyond the end of the project through scientific, strategic and sustainability discussions.
