Workshop III: La Laguna December 2-3, 2005

Star Formation and Structures in Galaxies

The aim of this workshop is to review and discuss works related to "Star Formation and Structures in Galaxies". It is clear that many structures like rings or bars in galaxies coincide with present day star formation bursts. Also, central structures such as nuclear bars or small bulges or nuclei can be understood as fossil structures resulting from previous starbursts. The modelling of the structures and masses in galaxies are also of vital importance for determining the fate of the massive star formation processes (e.g. Supergalactic Winds). The different structures can also be traced by stellar population modelling which provide information about their ages and star formation history. All in all, it is clear that the galaxies hosting massive starbursts are important parts of the puzzle if star formation feedback is to be understood.
