The Star Formation Impact

The IAC node of the "Starbursts of Stellar Formation" project is organising the 6th annual workshop of the project funded by the National Plan for Astronomy and Astrophysics (AYA 2004-08260-C03).

This workshop will be the last one of the second edition of the project "Starbursts of Star Formation" (ESTALLIDOS 2), which ends in December 2007. The leaders of the 7 scientific programmes of the project, with contributions from each of us, will give a detailed review of the main scientific achievements of the last three years. Each member of the project will also present their scientific results by means of a poster exhibition.

The sessions will take place on 12 (afternoon)-13 (morning) December 2007 at the Bahía Principe San Felipe Hotel in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife).

Starburst Science with GTC

The IAC node of the Starburst Formation Bursts project is organising a scientific meeting to explore ESTALLIDOS science projects for the use of the Gran Telescopio de Canarias (GTC), with the aim of defining several science projects that integrate as many participants as possible of the ESTALLIDOS-3 project starting at the end of 2007.

The science projects to be defined should be ambitious enough to use ESO-GTC time. This observational time will only be given to large projects that require at least 20 GTC nights. The pre-call for such projects will take place in November and the deadline for submission of proposals will be the end of March.

The meeting will start on 13 December 2007 after lunch and will consist of two parts.

1. In the first part, those members of the group who have experience in the use of 8m class telescopes (VLT, GEMINI, etc.) will tell us about the scientific projects that have obtained time on these telescopes.
2. The second part will propose to the ESTALLIDOS-3 community the scientific projects that want to apply for ESO-GTC time. ESTALLIDOS-3 members will be able to join one or more of the projects presented, creating working groups to start working on future observational proposals for GTC.
