ESTALLIDOS
Multifaced study of star-formation in the Universe (Estallidos 8)

La Cristalera, Madrid , 5-7 Febrero 2024

Motivation:

This will be the XIV edition of the Estallidos workshops, an initiative we pioneered during the first Estallidos in  2003 , which is now followed by any major research project on astrophysics in Spain.  The workshop offers a chance to get together and allows junior members to know and be known by the team. It is an opportunity to discuss new projects, mature ideas, identify potential collaborators, and build scientific bonds.

The grand scientific goals given in the original Estallidos 8 proposal are,

  1. I. The study of structures within spiral galaxies
  2. II. Multi-wavelength characterization of star formation
  3. III. Key aspects of star formation in a cosmological context
  4. IV. Understanding reionization-era galaxies and their local analogs: massive star formation from the earliest galaxies to the cosmic noon
  5. V. Star formation, metallicity, and galaxy evolution in extreme environments
  6. VI. Construction of advanced instrumentation for large telescopes: TARSIS and MOSAIC

Keeping them in mind, this kickoff meeting will be focused on,

  • Explaining to each other the scientific programs that we will develop during Estallidos 8.
  • Identifying one or various specific works to be addressed and completed by the whole collaboration.
  • Agreeing on strategies to ensure that all the weaknesses of Estallidos 8 identified by the referees are addressed and cleared out.
  • Highlighting results from the past Estallidos 7 .

Schedule, talks, participants and photos:

You can find the schedule, talks and participants  here  ; photos can be found here .

Logistics:

The Workshop will begin on Monday 5 Feb. in the morning, and finish on Wednesday 7 Feb at noon.

The Workshop will take place in  La Cristalera  (40° 49' 15.5” N, 3° 47' 6” W; road M-611 km 10, 28791 Miraflores de la Sierra, Madrid; see here ).  La Cristalera   is a teaching centre that the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid has in the municipality of Miraflores de la Sierra for the development of meetings, conferences, summer courses and leisure and cultural activities. It is 2.5 km away the center of Miraflores de la Sierra and about 50 km at North of Madrid.

We have booked accommodation for about 30 people from the afternoon of Sunday 4th so that we can start the sessions on Monday morning. Note that someone of the LOC will be at La Cristalera on sunday after lunch-time to recieve people. Accommodation and meals during the stay at La Cristalera are provided within the framework of the Estallidos 7 CIEMAT node (PID2019-107408GB-C41 project), however, each participant will have to find funds to get to the residence.
