SUBSTELLAR Seminar
The ESA Euclid Archive – An Overview
By Dr Héctor Cánovas Cabrera (Telespazio UK S.L for ESA/ESAC), 11/03/2026
On March 11, 2026, Dr Héctor Cánovas delivered a seminar for the SUBSTELLAR team and other interested researchers at the IAC, presenting an overview of the ESA Euclid Archive. The Euclid mission, led by the European Space Agency (ESA), aims to map the geometry of the dark Universe by surveying 13300 square degrees of the extragalactic sky through high-resolution imaging and slitless spectroscopy.
The ESA Euclid Archive provides the primary access point to the extensive dataset produced by the mission, including catalogues, spectra, images, and auxiliary data products from the Euclid Q1 release. These data can be accessed through several interfaces, including command-line tools, the Astroquery Python package, a web-based graphical user interface (GUI), Virtual Observatory–compliant software, the ESASky web application, and the ESA Datalabs platform.
During the seminar, Dr Cánovas introduced the structure of the Euclid Archive and ESA Datalabs and demonstrated practical ways to access and explore the Q1 data products.

Following the seminar, Dr Cánovas conducted two days of intensive hands-on training sessions with SUBSTELLAR researchers.
These sessions focused on several science cases proposed by the group members and explored practical aspects of accessing and analysing Euclid DR1 data, with particular emphasis on the capabilities of ESA Datalabs and its integration with other ESA tools.
